Ghummofy’s camel safari in Jaisalmer takes you into that silence. Whether you choose a one-hour sunset ride or a full overnight desert safari, our experienced camel handlers and local guides will take you to the dune ridges, the viewpoints and the quiet corridors of the Sam Sand Dunes that most travellers never find.
There is a moment on a camel safari in Jaisalmer when the last sound of the road disappears. No engines, no horns, no mobile notifications. Just the soft crunch of camel footfall on sand, the wind moving across the dunes, and a sky so wide it feels like the whole world has exhaled.
This is why people come to Jaisalmer. Not just the Golden Fort — though that is extraordinary. Not just the havelis and the bazaars. They come because the Thar Desert is one of the last places in India where the silence is complete, the sky is uninterrupted, and a camel is still the most sensible form of transport.
From a quick sunset ride to a full overnight desert adventure — pick the experience that fits your time and mood.
Sunset Camel Safari
The classic Jaisalmer dune experience
The classic Jaisalmer camel safari. Ride out to the highest dune ridge just as the sun begins its descent. The light turns the sand from yellow to amber to deep copper. One of the most beautiful sunsets in India — watched from the back of a camel.
Sunrise Camel Safari
The desert at first light — cold, still and luminous
The desert at dawn is a completely different world. Cold, grey-blue and then — as the sun clears the horizon — spectacularly golden. Our sunrise camel safari in Jaisalmer rewards those willing to wake at 5 am with something genuinely unforgettable.
Full Day Camel Safari
Deep into the dunes, far from the crowds
Go deeper into the Sam Sand Dunes than any tourist bus or jeep can reach. Our full day camel safari in Jaisalmer covers remote dune corridors, desert villages and fossil ridges — with a packed Rajasthani lunch eaten in the shade of a khejri tree.

Licensed & Registered Handlers Every camel handler working with Ghummofy is licensed, experienced and registered under Rajasthan Tourism guidelines. Our camels are well-maintained, regularly inspected and treated with care. We do not use overworked or underfed animals.
Local Knowledge, Not Google Maps We know exactly which dune ridge gives the best sunset view, which time of year the light is most photogenic, and which route avoids the tourist crowds. This is insider knowledge that comes from 10+ years of daily operation in the Sam Sand Dunes — not from a booking platform.
No Haggling, Fixed Prices Our safari prices are fixed and published. What you see is what you pay. No beach-side bargaining, no last-minute add-ons, no surprise charges on the day. Book through Ghummofy and your price is your price.
Camel Welfare We are committed to responsible tourism. Our camels work limited hours, are properly fed and rested, and are never overloaded. We do not run night safaris that disorient the animals or push them past comfortable distances. If you see a camel at another operator that does not look healthy — walk away. Ours are looked after.
Seamless Combination with Desert Camp Our camel safari is designed to connect perfectly with our overnight desert camp experience. Same operator, same team, same quality — you do not have to coordinate between two different companies or hope the timings work out. Book both through Ghummofy and it all flows.
Step 1 — Pickup from Jaisalmer Your Ghummofy vehicle picks you up from your hotel in Jaisalmer city. The 42 km drive to Sam Sand Dunes passes through small desert villages, open scrub land and the occasional herd of blackbuck — the desert starts before you arrive at it.
Step 2 — Meet Your Camel At the dunes, your camel handler introduces you to your camel — each one has a name, a personality and an opinion about pace. You receive a brief safety and mounting briefing before setting off. First-timers are always a little surprised by how smooth camel walking actually is once you settle into the rhythm.
Step 3 — Into the Dunes Your camel moves steadily away from the road and into the dune field. The crowds thin out within 10 minutes. Within 20, you are in a landscape that looks and sounds completely different — rippled sand in every direction, the wind across the ridges, the occasional desert bird.
Step 4 — The Dune Ridge Your handler guides you to the highest accessible ridge — the best viewpoint in the dune field for the sunset or sunrise. Dismount, find your spot, and let the Thar do what it does. This is the moment most guests say they will never forget.
Step 5 — Return & Drop After the viewing, you ride back to the base at a leisurely pace. Welcome drink on return. Your vehicle drops you back to your Jaisalmer hotel or, if you are staying overnight at camp, you walk straight into your evening experience.

Depending on the package, anywhere from 45 minutes (sunset ride) to a full day (5–6 hours) or overnight. The most popular option is the 45–60 minute sunset camel safari combined with the overnight desert camp stay.
Sam Sand Dunes are 42 km west of Jaisalmer city — approximately 50–60 minutes by road. Ghummofy provides pickup and drop from your Jaisalmer hotel for full-day and overnight safari packages. For the sunset ride, most guests hire a cab or use our vehicle service.
October to February is ideal. November and December offer the best sunset light and comfortable temperatures. March and April are warm but still pleasant for morning rides. Avoid the summer months (May–June) when temperatures exceed 45°C.
Absolutely. Our sunset and sunrise safaris are standalone experiences and do not require an overnight camp stay. You can do the 45-minute sunset ride and return to your hotel in Jaisalmer the same evening.
Yes. Our full-day safari option includes both camel riding and jeep exploration of the wider dune field. The jeep covers terrain the camels cannot reach and the camels take you into areas where no jeep can go. The combination gives you the complete Sam Sand Dunes experience.
